Cottage Colour & Pollinators

One of the biggest Chelsea trends this year is relaxed, natural planting filled with movement, colour and pollinator friendly flowers. Soft cottage garden styles continue to be hugely popular, mixing airy flowers with long flowering perennials to create a garden that feels informal and full of life.

Plants such as salvias, geums, cosmos, nepeta and papaver all work beautifully together and are perfect for adding colour throughout the summer months. Lavender also continues to be a favourite for both fragrance and attracting bees and butterflies into the garden.

The key to achieving this look is layering different heights, textures and flower shapes together to create a softer, more natural feel.

Bold Foliage & Texture

Chelsea gardens are not just about flowers. Foliage plays a huge part in creating depth, contrast and structure within planting schemes and this year’s gardens are showcasing some stunning combinations.

Hostas and heucheras are perfect for bringing texture and colour into shaded areas, while bold foliage plants can help soften borders and add interest even when flowers are not in bloom. Rich burgundy tones, lime greens and variegated leaves are all featuring strongly in modern garden planting.

Mixing different leaf shapes and colours together is a simple way to instantly create a more designer inspired look at home.

Fragrance, Romance & Climbers

Classic romantic planting is another look continuing to shine at Chelsea this year. Roses, peonies and lavender help create a softer, timeless garden feel filled with fragrance and colour.

David Austin roses remain a firm favourite for cottage garden planting, while peonies bring large, luxurious blooms that make a real statement in borders and containers alike. Ray Evison clematis are also perfect for adding height and softness to arches, obelisks and trellis panels. Combining these with softer planting and gentle colour palettes helps create a calming and inviting outdoor space.

Even adding just one or two statement plants can completely transform the feel of a garden.

Pots, Furniture & Finishing Touches

Chelsea inspired gardens are all about creating spaces to enjoy, not just beautiful planting. Containers, garden furniture and decorative finishing touches all help bring a garden scheme together and make outdoor spaces feel more welcoming and personal.

Layering planted pots around seating areas, adding decorative containers or refreshing tired corners with seasonal colour can make a huge difference without needing a complete garden redesign.

Whether you prefer a relaxed cottage garden feel or something more modern and structured, small details often have the biggest impact.
