OK, so let’s talk about Camellias! These beautiful plants are a real treat in the garden, but they do have a few little quirks. Get them right, and you’ll be rewarded with stunning blooms year after year.
First things first – where you plant them matters. Camellias don’t like early morning sun. I know, it sounds a bit fussy, but there’s a good reason! If the buds warm up too quickly in the morning, they can drop off before they even get a chance to open properly. So, a spot that gets afternoon sun is much better – it gives the buds time to wake up slowly.
Watering? Super important! Through the summer, Camellias need plenty of water to help them set their buds for next year’s flowers. If you can, rainwater is best – they really seem to thrive on it.
If you’re planting Camellias in pots, I’d recommend using Westland Ericaceous Planting and Potting Mix. It’s perfect for them, as they prefer slightly acidic soil. And to keep them looking their best, you might want to try Westland Ericaceous High Performance Liquid Plant Food, which is rich in seaweed too. It’s a great way to make sure they’ve got everything they need for healthy growth and those beautiful blooms.
Oh, and they’re evergreen, so even when they’re not flowering, they’ll still look lovely all year round. Perfect!
So, if you’re thinking about adding a Camellia to your garden, pop in and have a chat – we’ve got some real beauties at the moment. And, of course, I’m always happy to help with any plant questions!
See you soon
